[edit] Ted Kennedy

Don't worry about Carter and Clinton - everyone knows that the Democrat to move is Ted Kennedy :) - Haukur 01:25, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

A Google search for (Edward Kennedy OR Edward M. Kennedy) yields more hits than one for Ted Kennedy - and a search on books.google.com is even more decisive. So I'd have thought the common names principle suggests it should be at Edward M. Kennedy. But I've never edited that page and I'm reluctant to invade the article :) - Haukur 01:32, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] To all who would open their pie-holes on my talk page before thinking twice

As of today's date, I'm five days without cigarettes. Be warned though, it's better not to f**k with me because I'm feistier than a rodeo bronc on first ride. Just congratulate me and go the hell away.

In other words, read before you write. Three times for the more thick-headed of you. astiqueparervoir 05:16, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

PS... A further warning Do not take this as any sign that any debate I may have entered under this ill-suited star is any way any indication that my opinion is irrational. I'm merely better able to express things that I know a lot of you are actually thinking.

Please don't get me involved in any new debates such as "Please share your opinion now on the VfD:Category:Romanian World War II Soldiers in Literature" I may not vote the way you want me to this time. B

PPS: One more thing, while I'm thinking about it. Just because I'm feeling sensitive and emotional doesn't excuse the behavior that may have earned my possible reaction. If you're an ass, your no less of one whether or not I react to you. B 14:42, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Well, I am going to say "Congratulations" to you, five days is a huge accomplishment!!! Prsgoddess187 14:47, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Irish people peer review?

The additions and editions made on this page even within recent weeks - especily photos - has vastly improved it, to the better I think. Would you support it being submitted for a peer review, and help tidy it up/add some more? Fergananim 14:44, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Essjay

Dia duit— I saw your post on Essjay's page, and here's what happened AFAIK: The poor lad was under a fair amount of tension to begin with for reasons of which I am unclear on, and then the MfD and resulting hostility over WP:CCW caused him to leave. He then, while observing from afar, saw R. fiend break the 3RR and blocked him. He got a fair amount of flak onWP:AN/3RR (see WP:AN/3RR#User:R. fiend), got frustrated/angry and deleted a mess of his contribs, including a bunch of images and his user page (see his deletion log). Dammit, and he was one of the best admins, too. Just in case you were wondering... Blackcap (talk) 19:53, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Changed afroamericana to aforamericana o negra. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll review the translation for other counties. --Boticario 23:19, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Featured term

Ok, let's not revert war over this, but discuss it. I believe that "featured article" is not a generic term (nor has it been for a long time). Raul654 04:41, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Fort Lauderdale

Nicely done! I see we think alike! The first thing that I thought of was I was reading a brochure! You truly are a superior being XanxzMad Max 02:23, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I will be putting some pictures up as well, I have a few nice night photos that would speak well of the cityMad Max 02:31, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Nice photos of Fort Lauderdale. I am making it my mission to make the page one of the best depicting a city on Wikipedia. Forgive me for my slowness of adding my own photos. They will be up soon.--Mad Max 00:48, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

I just added a Fort Lauderdale beach sunrise photo. I don't know if I put it in the best place, feel free to move it around if you want. Just for kicks I also added a photo of Hollywood beach on the Hollywood, Florida page.--Mad Max 06:18, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Yikes! thats what happens when you are uploading photos instead of sleeping during the night, sorry about the typo on the photo, obviously sunrise, guess my body was telling me to sleep.--Mad Max 15:30, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:User virus

I just wanted to know why you created this template, since I was thinking about sending this to TFD. Thank you. Zach (Smack Back) Fair use policy 10:46, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fisher Island

I thought that was a good edit/improvement to the article. I wrote quite a bit of the FA on Carl Graham Fisher and several related ones, such as black millionaire Dana A. Dorsey, another early owner. Mark in the Historic Triangle of Virginia, Vaoverland 02:19, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Map_of_Florida_highlighting_Hialeah.png

Did you make this? It looks great. I was wondering if you could make a similar one for Jacksonville, Florida. --Revolución (talk) 00:57, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Boca Raton

Sorry about that. I was quite sure I had only highlighted part of that paragraph. -- Dalbury(Talk) 14:13, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Commons welcome template

I've created a rough draft at commons:User:Rdsmith4/Welcome-es. It's translated more or less exactly from the English version. My orthography is probably less than perfect; I'll try to find a native speaker (which I am not) to look it over. Regards — Dan | talk 00:30, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Is there an admin in the house?

The FA €2 commemorative coins is under mass vandalism. Can it be protected? --Red King 00:23, 28 January 2006 (UTC) No need, problem dealt with. --Red King 00:36, 28 January 2006 (UTC) Thanks anyway - it was a firefight in there for a while, so I blindly searched for an admin or someone who might know an admin. Europhobia is a serious affliction, it seems! --Red King 00:45, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] interstate highway PNG deletions

I'm well aware of the SVG switchover; I am probably the 2nd most involved person with it. (see Commons:Interstate shields). But thanks for letting me know. I don't really care about that page (I think you are talking about Commons:User:Engleman/temp20051212) being messed up, but thank you for notifying me. I would just suggest that you ensure that all of the PNG shields on every language Wikipedia (or any other wiki that might use the Commons) have been switched to the SVG ones first. I've heard about their use elsewhere. --Chris 02:03, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Washington Avenue

38.885112° N 77.010823° W - it was renamed from Canal Street at some point. I believe there have been other renamings - Louisiana Avenue (the north analogue of Washington) was once something else for example. --SPUI (talk - don't use sorted stub templates!) 03:05, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Aha - here we go. [1]
For many years, one could win a D.C. trivia contest by knowing which was the only one of the 50 states without a street in the city named after it. The answer was -- until November 16, 1989 -- the state of Washington. On that date the four-block stretch that was Canal Street, S.W. (a diagonal street that ran from South Capitol Street to Independence Avenue, S.W.) was renamed for the 42nd state.
It had been long reasoned, but never proven, that the omission was made to prevent confusion withthe name of the city and George Washington himself. The name was changed because of a one-man campaign launched by C.S. Wetherell, a 67-year-old retired Coast Guard captain and life-long resident of the state.

[edit] Pompano Beach red light district remover strikes again

Hey...it seems that he is still up to it. Do you think a short block might make sense? Yourebustedyo

I've notified VIP... But he/she is logging in from a dynamic IP so a block won't do very much good. Just keep watch. He/she will wear out eventually. I hope. astiqueparervoir 20:45, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
You've got it right -- Pompano seems to be known largely for its problems among locals like us. Although this red light district thing seems a bit silly by itself, it at least injects some balance into the article. As for the other situations you mentioned, I am tempted to dig into the Sun-Sentinel archives so I have the facts right. At the same time, and to be balanced, I am also tempted to expand on the redevelopment efforts -- which are very real, at least on the east side of town. Perhaps when I can find the time...Yourebustedyo

[edit] Comments requested.

Being that you help create Template:Ie citytown infobox, i was hoping that you might be willing to comment on the proposal to merge all of the current irish place boxes into one intergrated box. [edit] Potential 3RR about to happen

I didn't see close to four reverts, so I have not explicitly warned for that. I've offered my opinion that these images do not meet fair use guidelines, and that ambiguity over this should be discussed (at the article, since fair use is about use and not the image itself, which seem to be properly tagged). If anyone does violate the 3RR, the proper thing to do is report it at WP:AN/3RR for enforcement. Demi T/C 20:09, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:WritersCramp

Hi Bastique. Yeah, I figured that this user had been blocked (and quite right too!), but I thought it best to follow procedure and notify him (I'm assuming it was a guy...) that the images had been tagged in case he was still monitoring his talk page... Regards, CLW 17:38, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Equadorian Naval Jack

I notice that you removed a link to the Ecuadorian naval jack from the WikiProject Ships ensigns and jacks table a few days ago with the edit summary, "rm copyvio per commons". How exactly is that image a copyvio, and if it a copyvio why haven't you marked it as such on Commons? It could be argued, I suppose, that it is a derivative from FOTW and is a copyvio on that basis. However from what I can see the only information lifted directly from FOTW, as the author of the image says, is the colouring. Please enlighten me as to your reasoning. David Newton 23:29, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I was concerned about the raster version of the image myself. If you look at the WikiProject talk you will see that I have created a list of copyright problem jacks and ensigns. The raster version of that image is on the list. Greentubing created the SVG version of the file to help get rid of copyright problem images. We haven't quite got rid of all of them yet but we're working on it. David Newton 00:11, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Ignoring on IRC

I put you on ignore, Bastique, because the comments you were making at the time gave the impression to me and if i recall at least 2 other users, that you were bigoted against the Quebecois language, and statements like "The soul purpose of French Canadian is to wipe the French language off the face of the earth" really do not do anything to lighten that opinion. I dont knwo whether you were simply joking with us, or what. I will unignore you though, and hope we can put this behind us. Thor Malmjursson 22:04, 12 February 2006 (UTC) Thor's pet yack

[edit] Wikipedia: Public Apology to User:Bastique

I am issuing this public apology to Bastique, because of actions I undertook earlier today outside of the Wikipedia. I intentionally ignored Bastique in the Wikipedia IRC Channel, because I saw comments he made which I disagreed with strongly, not realising that the user was in fact being humourous. I got the wrong end of the conversation, and made known in channel the fact that I had ignored him. On this matter, Bastique, I apologise sincerely. I will attempt to be a little more light hearted when dealing with conversations in channel, since its often difficult to discern when people are being humourous and when they are being serious.

[edit] China map

Umm.. they were done in Adobe Photoshop actually, so they were not vector-based. -- ran (talk) 18:14, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

I'll upload a bigger version when I get to my home computer. There's a limit on how far I can go though, coz I based it off someone else's work, and they still want to retain copyright for it, so basically they agreed to let me to make this map (and similar derivatives) and release under GFDL, but nothing too detailed.

(The good thing though is that it's got the most accurate and up-to-date borders... which is why I based it off theirs in the first place. =) )

What do you need it for, by the way? If you like I can make what you need for you. -- ran (talk) 19:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

SVG Maps of China! Of course! To substitute for the PNG images in many projects. astiqueparervoir 20:02, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Do you mean the translations of Image:China administrative.png? Hmm, since I still have the original files for those maps (except the Vietnamese one, coz I couldn't get the Vietnamese font to display correctly in Photoshop -__-), I'd be happy to remake them into SVG format. But are you sure it will save that much space? They're all under 100K right now... -- ran (talk) 13:27, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AncientWorlds

You said at Wikipedia:Mirrors_and_forks/Abc#Alumni_.40_alumni.grunderskolen.no (a long time ago) that you were a member of that site and could ask to get the copyvio (http://www.ancientsites.com/aw/Post/110614) removed. However, it's still there. Is it possible for you to contact the owners again? Superm401 - Talk 22:41, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

In the past, it's been fairly easy to become an administrator at Commons. We are all human beings and are subject to anger, and occasional attacks (see underscored text). But can sysops be trolls? I believe when an individual has displayed a continuous habit of ongoing abuse, it begins to necessitate another look:

<Bastique> paddyez: We are not responsible for image content.
<paddyez> Bastique: you sound like a raving lunatic sticking to nonsence polecies
<Bastique> paddyez: That's your opinion
<Bastique> paddyez: We do not have the resources to debate image use
<paddyez> Bastique: OK is there any reason false Images should be not marked as such or better
                be deleted because missleading?
<Bastique> We are a repository of media
<Bastique> Inaccurate images do not merit deletion due to inaccuracy
<paddyez> *ROFL*
<Bastique> Paddyez: STOP IT, You are being a deliberate troll.
<paddyez> what?
<Bastique> And you are goading me into provication.
<paddyez> I am a commons sysop
<paddyez> *LOL*
<Bastique> Can sysops act like trolls?
<paddyez> Bastique: what you are telling me is absolut bullocks
<Bastique> paddyez:"Bastique: what you are telling me is absolut bullocks". Well fuck off
[INFO] You are now ignoring <paddyez>.

I'm taking a much deserved break for an undisclosed number of days. Feel free to leave messages for me. Just don't expect me to answer right away.

[edit] Re: Image:Red-Kangaroo-5legs.jpg

No worries. It's a pretty crappy picture but, yes, the "5th leg" is well illustrated. It's one of the many I uploaded which I had lost track of. Now that I'm aware of it, I have released it to the GFDL. Best - Tannin 07:37, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
