Bassina yatei is a bivalve mollusc of the Family Veneridae endemic to New Zealand. It is found all around New Zealand's coast on sandy bottoms in shallow water.

The shell is large, ovate-subquadrate, moderately convex, solid, sculptured with rather distant concentric lamellae, that are often frilled to weakly spinose at the posterior end. The lamellae commence at about 10 mm down from the beaks, after which they are from 3 to 4 per cm.

Coloration is creamy-white externally, often violet tinged at the beaks, interior white, often diffused with violet.

Maximum shell height is 54 mm, and length 63 mm.
