Bassim Abbas

Bassim Abbas Kati (born July 1, 1982) is an Iraqi football (soccer) defender playing for the Nejmeh football club in Lebanon.

Basim made his name in the Iraqi youth team and was part of the team from its inception, playing in two of Iraq’s qualifying games in Rajshahi, Bangladesh in 2000. He was called up by Yugoslav coach Barja Maric into the Iraqi B team, playing in an international tournament in Indonesia in August 2000, three months before the AFC Youth Championship helping Iraq to reach the runners-up spot behind the hosts. Basim played in six games in Tehran, missing only one game due to a suspension. He was omitted by Hamad for the 2001 World Youth Championship in Argentina but was given his international debut by Rudolf Belin in 2001 in the 0-0 draw with Qatar in [[Doha].] He played in the final matches of the 2002 World Cup qualifiers; he is now one of the first names on the team-sheets for Iraq.
