Bass cornett

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The bass cornett was an instrument usually constructed an octave below the normal treble cornett in G. This instrument was usually replaced by the trombone or sackbut or the serpent.

However, a number of bass cornetts have survived and the instrument was possibly more common than has been previously thought. A number of compositions for cornett consorts require a bass cornett on the lowest line. A number of low lying parts written in the C tenor clef would be appropriate for the bass cornett.
