Basic (behaviour)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Believed to have been coined by patrons of the underground music scene in Bristol towards the beginning of the 21st century; but evedence also suggests the term came from the wiltshire village of Ludgershall; basic is a slang term which refers to behaviour that is normally associated with those less cognitively gifted individuals: "I cant believe you missed that shot—you're so basic". In the normal population, basic behaviour is usually evident after a long night/weekend and/or heavy drug consumption.
Behaviour termed "basic" may include, but is not limited to:
- Having poor co-ordination or spatial awareness, eg. Being unable to catch a ball.
- Exhibiting a (temporarily) low level of intelligence, reasoning, or memory.
- Engaging in conversation that either makes no sense or is irellevant to the subject.
- Losing the capacity for verbal communication.
- Losing consciousness in undesirable positions/places.
- Vomiting upon yourself or others
- Spinning out and thinking your friends head is a crow
Most people showing symptoms of being basic will recover with a liberal application of sleep and sobriety, although it is not unusual for this kind of treatment to take several days. In the interim period of recovery, many find it useful to supplement their treatment with alcohol or ketamine—generally in public bars—whilst indulging in activities which test your physical co-ordination, eg. 8-ball pool. This allows people to use the imbibed substances as a scapegoat for their poor performance.
