Bashundhara City is the largest business center and shopping mall in Bangladesh. It was opened to public on 6 August 2004. It is located at Panthapath, near Karwan Bazar, in Dhaka city. The developers of the mall claim that Bashundhara City is the largest shopping mall in South Asia and the 12th largest in the world[citation needed].

Bashundhara City is 21 stories tall, of which 8 are used for the mall and remaining floors are used as the corporate headquarters of the Bashundhara Group.

The mall has 29,000 units of shop spaces from one to six levels, with the smallest unit on about 160 square feet.

  • Ground Floor to 4th Floor — Various retailers of garments, computer showrooms, electronic goods, electrical gadgets, car showrooms and sanitary wares.
  • 5th Floor — Various cellphone, electronic and lifestyle related retailers.
  • 6th Floor — Various DVD/CD/VCD retailers, leather goods, shoes and some cellphone retailers.
  • 7th Floor — Reserved for acquiring commercial fairs and festivals.
  • 8th Floor — Food court, multi-screen cinema hall, theme park, fitness center, swimming pool, etc.
  • 9th to 20th Floor — Bashundhara Group corporate office.

The mall has space for 2,500 retail stores and cafeterias and also possesses a large underground gymnasium and top floor food court along with an indoor theme park. Bashundhara City occupys 18 million square feet (1.6 million square meters)[3] of floor space.

The multiplex with digital sound system screens both local and foreign films. Each of the three parts of the theater can accommodate 262 people. The Bashundhara City building also has rooftop gardens and is a modern symbol of the emerging city of Dhaka.
