The India Starawarded to those who make outstanding contributions to WikiProject India and all descendant WikiProjects. Introduced by Ganeshk and designed by DaGizza. |
- Support as nominator - Ganeshk (talk) 17:24, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose per Wikipedia:Barnstars/Barnstar of National Merit there is already Commons:Image:BoNM - India.png --evrik 00:48, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
- This is a WikiProject award. I want the WikiProject award to be different from the national merit one.
- I like this one better. It fits nicely (neat square) into the The India Star template. - Ganeshk (talk) 00:51, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

firstthird time a national wikiproject has asked to do this, it is not a novel issue, but it could get out of control. --evrik 14:16, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

- Support As the designer, I may be biased but I concur with Ganesh's reasoning that this barnstar should be specific for the Indian WikiProjects. There is a hint of nationalism with the BoNM and from my experience tends to be given to people only of that nationality (correct me if I'm wrong). To be awarded the India Barnstar one does not have to be Indian, just contribute greatly to Indian related articles. I also don't see what problems an extra barnstar would cause. I also agree with Ganesh's second comment that it looks better in the template. GizzaChat © 04:50, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
- DaGizza, BONM can be given to any editor working on India-related articles. User:Tom_Radulovich has a Indian BONM from Nichalp. - Ganeshk (talk) 05:05, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

- Support the India Wikiproject Award, but Oppose the India Barnstar of National Merit. The Barnstar of National Merit was specifically created to be nation-neutral, to cover all countries and to make the creation of nation-specific barnstars unnecessary (in fact, IIRC, it was borne out of the original idea of providing a barnstar for articles related to Brazil). Plus, the Barnstar of National Merit is an official barnstar. Wouldn't it be much nicer to get an official barnstar? Plenty of people have been awarded the Barnstar of National Merit for edits to India articles. I don't see why the tradition has to stop. --Deathphoenix ʕ 17:13, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- DP, have you seen this page Barnstar of National Merit? --evrik 19:48, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- (sigh) If I'd paid attention while those things were being created, I would have opposed the whole lot of them. It's sad to see these things pop up when we spent a lot (and I mean a lot) of time trying to come up with a nation-neutral colour scheme for a barnstar that can be used anywhere (we eventually settled on UN blue). It's very, very disheartening. --Deathphoenix ʕ 20:30, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project Indonesia award

Please give comment for support or oppose. Thanks very much. Imoeng 10:31, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Support the 2nd version, but not the name. Garuda in the first version is not visible and the 3rd version is a bit boring. The name Raflessia, though it is an Indonesian flower name, but it has British link. Thus, how about naming it Barnstar Indonesia? — Indon (reply) — 10:46, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Support the 2nd version. And I do support the name Rafflesia. Other names were Barnstar Tanah Air, Barnstar Borobudur, Barnstar Tambora, or Barnstar Kukuruyuk. Merbabu 10:50, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose designs 1 and 2. If design 3 gets support from the WikiProject (see the above discussion about the India WikiProject award) then it will be a WikiProject award, but I still think a Barnstar of National Merit is good enough. Michaelas10 (T|C) 11:23, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Can you tell me why did you do not agree, please? So I can create better images in the future. Also you are right, these <awards> are candidates for WikiProject Indonesia's awards. Cheers -- Imoeng 11:43, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- When I read the discussion above, I've somewhat understood the problem. This is not a National Merit barnstar, this is a WikiProject award. And actually, three users, not related whatsoever to Indonesia as a country, have been given this award by contributing significantly to WP:INA. Cheers -- Imoeng 11:46, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- What I'm saying is, I don't like the designs as they don't remind some particular part of Indonesia or its culture (the first design probably does that but it has a bad quality); however, if this gets support from the WikiProject, the third design (or maybe the second) will be choosen anyway. - I suggest we put this on hold until we figure out what we want to do about all the WikiProjects from different countries. --evrik 20:40, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Is it really matter if an award is proposed to a WikiProject? I mean, not all Wikipedians will use it, and the barnstar will probably only "travels" through a particular WikiProject. And again, its only an award, not a barnstar. I can also create my own award, like people have already done. Cheers -- Imoeng 23:34, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Germany Project Star
- The following discussions are an archived debate. Please do not modify it.
Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
We've just started the new Wikipedia:WikiProject Germany with about ten members, so there's some reason to think it might last a while. I would love to have a barnstar to give out for the project, but have the computer skills to actually hit even the right key only about 50% of the time at best. Anyone who has rather more ability is more than welcome to try their hand at creating one. A few ideas that come to mind for me, that should not be taken as being firm guidelines (I'm very open to suggestion here), and I would be very grateful for any input whatever:
- (1) somehow incorporating the German coat of arms into a barnstar.
- (2) incorporating either the Brandenburg Gate or the Quadriga from same into a barnstar.
- (3) Probably least unique but probably easiest, a barnstar striped with the three stripes of the current flag of Germany. The stripes would be quite welcome as an aspect of any other design as well.
Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 21:50, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Another suggestion: designing a barnstar reminiscent of the Bundesverdienstkreuz. Take a look at Commons:Image:Bundesverdienstorden.jpg, you see that they all have a similar design on either a six- or an eight-pointed star. Somone who's good at computer art could put that design on the five-pointed barnstar. —Angr 13:52, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Someone else has suggested using the Image:bluemax4.jpg as the template for the barnstar. Badbilltucker 17:08, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Why not just use the German Barnstar of National Merit? --evrik 18:16, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

- A good question, and one that deserves an answer. The problem is that we intend this group to deal with all the people and events in the area which is now the country of Germany, and has been a "German" state before then. This would include Prussia and all the countries which existed before the 19th century creation of modern Germany. Also, the boundaries of any European state are more than fluid over time, so an article related to the Alsace-Lorraine area when it was part of Germany might be problematic. However, I acknowledge it may well be possible that these may be insufficient reasons, or perhaps ones that have been addressed elsewhere. If they are, then please point out those references to me, and I will withdraw this request. Badbilltucker 18:23, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Japan Barnsensu award
- The following discussions are an archived debate. Please do not modify it.
Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
Rationale for this message:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject awards: "NOTE: Before you can add an award to this page, it must be approved first. Please go to the new proposal page."
It's not there. It should be. The award: Template:WPJ-Barnsensu. See WikiProject Japan and Barnsensu recipients. (I personally have had nothing to do with the award.) Wipe 01:21, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'll wait until 14 December and if there are no objections, I'll add it to the list. BTW, someone recently added a Pittsburgh Barnstar there. Wipe 09:12, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Object it has never been submitted for review, therenot a lot of support for the award, and the design could use some work. --evrik (talk) 05:19, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Wow, I didn't realise that part of the WikiProject awards are in Personal user awards, not in WikiProject awards as one would think. This is very misleading and there should be a notice at the top of the page and in Wikipedia:Awards also. It could be on the lines of: "The term WikiProject award is reserved for high-caste, quality awards only. For the scruffier awards by WikiProjects, see Personal user awards, amidst all the crap where they belong." Wipe 07:46, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Wipe, the objection is that it was not proposed, merely added without discussion. Please don't be sarcastic towards evrik, who is the only one who is sincerely committed to maintaining this page. I personally like the design, and think if you added it to the proposals page, you would find support for this as a Project award. Jeffpw 08:36, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Comment - I concur with Jeffpw. There is a procedure to follow here, and this is part of that procedure. Also, personally, I myself have some reservations about the award as is, as it is, to me, rather unappealing. It may well be that my reservations could be addressed in discussion, or it might be that others would also have reservations, which, if addressed, would make for a more generally appealing barnstar. That is one of the purposes of the required discussion. In any event, I see no reason to malign evrik, who has done extraordinary work keeping this process going, for following the rules of wikipedia. Badbilltucker 14:22, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- And I see no reason to accuse me of bad-mouthing anyone. My sarcastic comment was general in nature (evrik clearly isn't the only interested party) and, as of now, still stands. There are also other WikiProject awards that are supposedly not WikiProject awards at all. This alone, with regards to the usability of Wikipedia, is my point of concern – not the beloved bureaucratic process. Wipe 09:25, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Turkish Barnstar of national merit
- The following discussions are an archived debate. Please do not modify it.
Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. I would like to propose that this barnstar be listed under Barnstars of National Merit, so that I can formally list it in WikiProject Turkey so that people who have particularly contributed to Project related pages can be awarded. For such a large country, we still have to master the basics in many articles, and this stems from a relative lack of editors involved. We have over 30+ active editors, but it is still not enough considering the depth of the subject matter. So, what do people think of this:

- I like the 2.0 version the best. Also, could you be a bit more specific regarding the intended scope of the award. Is it intended for Hong Kong articles in general, or is it perhaps intended as the project award for Wikipedia:WikiProject Hong Kong? Badbilltucker 19:02, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] National Merit for Iranology articles
- The following discussions are an archived debate. Please do not modify it.

As far as I can see, there is no fixed national medal/barnstar for contributions to Iranian articles. And considering that there are a ton of Iranian related articles, I think having this barnstar/medal is worthwhile and constructive.
I designed the barnstar. The flora used on the star are of traditional Safavid motif designs often seen on Persian rugs, and the calligraphic script, called shekasteh, symbolizes the epitome of arts and literature in modern Iran. It says "Iran, oh blessed land", which is the name of a national anthym of Iran. I have refrained from using pre-revolutionary and post-revolutionary emblems on the flag to make the barnstar non-political (see Flags of Iran). Anyway, I think this should be a splendid addition.--Zereshk 17:32, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Support. Nice one, Zereshk. --Rayis 18:17, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Comment I have no problem with the deisgn. There has been an unspoken consensus that has developed with the National Barnstars. If you look here, Wikipedia:Barnstars/Barnstar of National Merit you will see that there is one generic award listed. The rest of the medals are listed on commons:Barnstar#Barnstars_of_National_Merit. A few wikiproject awards have also been listed. --evrik (talk) 18:43, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject Spain Award
- The following discussions are an archived debate. Please do not modify it.
Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. These are proposed designs for possible awards for the new WikiProject Spain. I have designed the ones below. One is a sort of pseudo-Picasso piece called "The Wikipedian." The second is based on Picasso's Don Quixote.[1] The third is based on Goya's Third of May 1808.[2] Thoughts?
--Polylerus 16:20, 26 February 2007
- A wikiproject can use whatvewr they like as an award. The tradition here has been that they tend to be star shaped. Also, there is a discussion already going on here, Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spain#Spain-related_.22barnstar.22 --evrik (talk) 21:22, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like a barnstar has already been devised -a star-shaped one. I hadn't seen that. --Polylerus 00:36, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
