[edit] political leanings of the commissioners
[edit] copied elsewhence
This thread was started on Talk:European Commission - I have copied the text here so that people know what is being talked about...
I think it would be useful if we could somehow list the political leanings of each of the commissioners from both the past and the present. This would be a summary that is unlikely to be present in any other references. We already do this very subtly (with colours) in the article President of the European Commission. Cheers. – Kaihsu 13:18, 2005 Apr 3 (UTC)
- Very subtle but I like the idea. The best place to do this is proberbly on each commission page such as Barroso Commission. This page (European Commission) needs links to the various commission pages too (do we still need to keep the current members on this page?). Final point - we should add a key! I'll see what I can do. Andreww 03:36, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- It would be nice if you could do it. Cheers. – Kaihsu 08:48, 2005 May 3 (UTC)
- I have had a go for the Barroso Commission and sugest we discuss the it there before moving on to the other pages. Andreww 09:58, 3 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] discussions
Ok - at the risk of talking to myself I would like to know peoples oppinions of the general plan to colour lists of members of commissions by supposed political leanings. Is this a good thing and should it be used for the pages of previous commissions?
There are also one or two points about the current assignments on this page. I decided what colour to assign based on the party linked from the page of the commissioners. In one or two cases no party was listed and there I have tried to work it out based on "was in so-and-so's govn't" and seeing what party so-and-so was in. Sometimes this did not help and I have left the row white. Those in the know could help by filling in the blanks.... Andreww 10:07, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
- Excellent work, Andreww! I think you can carry on with the earlier commissions as well! Cheers. – Kaihsu 11:17, 2005 May 3 (UTC)
- By the way, Ján Figeľ is safely blue, I think. – Kaihsu 11:20, 2005 May 3 (UTC)
[edit] Barroso blue
Is there a reason why Barroso is blue? I understand he came from the socialist party of Portugal (PSD). If Peter Mandleson is red despite the Labour party of the UK being not remotely social democratic these days, then why would Barroso be a conservative? EddieBernard 15:12, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
This is an error and I have fixed it.Andreww 20:11, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
- According to Social Democratic Party (Portugal): "The party's name can be misleading: it is a party of the centre-right, and does not advocate social democracy in any usual sense of the term. The party's delegates to the European Parliament have, since the late 1990s, sat with the European People's Party, along with the Conservative and Christian Democratic parties of many European countries." So I think the article is correct (Labour party members do not sit with this group). Andreww 20:14, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
