Fairley's family told me that his father had come from Sunderland. The name "Fairley" name occurs frequently in Durham according to census records for the period. The 1901 census indicates that people named Fairley were mostly labourers, many of them working jobs related to mining (for example, coal miner, coal heaver, stone quarryman). Some Fairleys were skilled workers and supervisors. One was a teacher; this was Barker's father. Dkmontreal 02:11, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
