- Sure, like any surgical procedure biariatric procedures have their share of side-effects. It is therefore not recommended for people with only mild obesity. See it as a trade-off. JFW | T@lk 20:17, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Merge?
As it's currently written, this article is mostly about obesity surgery specifically, rather than the discipline of bariatrics in general. As such, I propose merging the two articles, at least until an article about the medical field of bariatrics in general can be written. Angr/talk 07:42, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

- Concur Since the subject of bariatrics involves more than surgery, though, I suggest making the surgery article a subsection of this one, at least for now. --Joe Sewell 16:16, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Is there any other treatment in Bariatrics besides the surgery?
- Formally, medical treatments (with orlistat, sibutramine etc) would also fall under bariatrics, but in practice it refers exclusively to surgical approaches. JFW | T@lk 17:22, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe the bariatrics article needs to be shrunken to a more general discussion of obesity medicine, but surely I think the current content resorts under bariatric surgery.--Steven Fruitsmaak 18:53, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

I merged the articles. Because I got fed up at the end, you will notice the part about the operations is schematic, has no citations, and does not say more than the basics, copying parts from the respective individual articles here and there.
