[edit] Notable Inhabitants

Barton St David was the birthplace of Henry Adams (1583-1646), who emigrated with his wife Edith and nine children to the new colonies in Massachusetts. He was the great-great-grandfather of John Adams, the first Vice-President and second President of the United States. He was the great-great-great-grandfather of John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States.

There is a plaque in the parish Church which commemorates this link between the village and the United States.

Barton St David was also once the UK home of "The Web-Ring LTD" a promising, and much hyped tech IPO that went under in the great dot-com bust in the early part of the twenty first century.

Several Events are held annually in Barton St David, most notably:

The most notable happening of the race was when one year a team craftily entered with a poorly disguised upside down rubber dinghy. Average attendance: Participating: 32 Watching: 3 and 1 dog

Harvest Supper - A fine selection of oldies and other inhabitants gather to be treated with some nourrisment from the harvest before being treated to the smallest pieces of apple pie ever. Average attendance: 94

[edit] Landmarks

Barton St David is up there with London and Paris in terms of landmarks:

Tootle Bridge - This ancient wonder would probably be in the river Brue by now if it weren't for maintenance work. Dreaded by bus drivers, the bridge comes into the spotlight when it is packed with spectators during the annual raft race.

The Playing Field - Home of many 17-0 thrashings for the Barton St David football team until one can only guess they got relegated from the lowest division. During the summer plays host to epic cricket matches and turns into the pyramid stage once a year for the Barton Carnival.

The Village Hall - Whether it be with nursery, cubs, table tennis, meetings...fun can always be found in the village hall. The hall can be rather sneaky though, at any moment it can plunge you into eternal darkness, unless someone has a 50p on them that is!
