Career Highlights

Barry Brooks (born December 24, 1983) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League.

[edit] Early career

He was recruited as the number 15 draft pick in the 2001 AFL Draft from Grassy. He failed to make his debut for Port Adelaide and was traded at the end of the 2002 season to St. Kilda in exchange for picks No. 6 (Steven Salopek) and No. 31 (Joel Perry)

[edit] St Kilda career

He made his debut for the Saints in Round 1, 2003 against North Melbourne and played 5 games for the year. He then had problems with injury and did not play a game in 2004, and just 2 for 2005. After 7 games with a highest disposal tally of only 6, many thought Brooks would be delisted at years' end. However, the Saints hung onto him due to their lack of other options in the ruck (despite the fact Brooks played mostly in the forward line for the Scorpions).

After another year with Casey and very little opportunity, Brooks was recalled to the side in Round 22 against Brisbane at the Gabba, after a 14 month absence from the senior team (in the last home and away game of the season). Fortunately, Brooks had easily the best game of his career up til that point, booting 3 goals and beating a strong presence up forward, taking 7 marks and finishing with 15 disposals.

Brooks' main nickname is 'The Cactus' because of his height and body shape.
