Barricade Books

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barricade Books is an anarchist infoshop located in Melbourne, Australia which opened February 4, 1995.

During the first year of operation the police raided the shop charging one worker with selling obscene material, and then neo-nazis targeted the shop with the front window smashed twice. This resulted in the front window being covered by iron sheets for a year as the local Council would not authorise the installation of shutters. A compromise was eventually found whereby bullet proof plexi glass was installed.

In January 2003, the infoshop moved to the upstairs of Irene Community Arts Warehouse, in Melbourne suburb of Brunswick. It moved out of Irene Community Arts Warehouse in September 2006. As of February 2007 its website states that "the collective will be holding regular stalls until we move into our new location." [1]
