The Barrett M98 is an extended-range, semi-automatic sniper rifle, introduced at the 1998 Shot Show. This rifle chambers a .338 Lapua Magnum cartridge and has a gas-operated semi automatic action. The stock is made of fiberglass reinforced polyamide plastic to reduce weight.

There is only one Barrett M98 rifle in existence, residing on the wall of Barrett Firearms' Research and Development office. It has never been used in combat.
Introduction of this rifle has been delayed due to the introduction of the Barrett Model 99.
