Barnala is a city in the heart of the Indian state of Punjab, India. It was formerly located in the district Sangrur and now is the capital of the latest district of the state.

As of 2001 India census,GRIndia Barnala had a population of 96,397. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Barnala has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 58% of the males and 42% of females literate. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
