Bari, Somalia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bari (Somali: Bari; Arabic: باري Bārī) is an administrative region (gobolka) in northern Somalia. Major cities include Bosaso (the capital) and Qardho. It is bordered by regions Sanaag and Sool to the west, Nugaal to the south, the Gulf of Aden to the north, and the Indian Ocean to the east. In terms of land area, Bari is one of the largest regions of Somalia. The majority of the inhabitants belong to the Majeerteen subclan.
It was particularly hard hit by the tsunamis caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Over a hundred people were killed on the Hafun peninsula, and the coastal road linking the area with the rest of Somalia was severely damaged.
[edit] Division into Bari and Karkaar
