From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barger-Compascuum is a town in the Dutch municipality of Emmen. It is in a peat-producing region of Drenthe. Workers in the area still carve peat from bogs daily. An amusement park in the area includes historical information and reenactments of life in the time when peat production was a more important industry in Europe. Agriculture in the area is largely managed by a cooperative organization, which has regular elections and meetings to settle disputes.
