Bardsey, West Yorkshire

Bardsey, West Yorkshire, England (part of the civil parish of Bardsey cum Rigton) is a small commuter village outside the City of Leeds in the LS17 postcode district.

As a village it has very few local amenities. Its facilities include a public house, a garage and a baby clothes shop. It is a predominantly white middle class area with retired residents as the area is popular with wealthier pensioners.

As a village Bardsey is a particularly historical area. Sites of historical significance include:

  • England's oldest public house, the Bingley Arms, which is recorded in the Domesday Book.
  • A motte-and-bailey castle again dating back to post 1066.
  • The first Saxon tower church in England.
  • A local Roman settlement and road named Pompacalis
