Barbara Brennan, MA, Ph.D., is an American author and spiritual healer who had previously worked at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

[edit] Scientific Training

Originally trained as a physicist, she received her BS degree in Physics in 1962 from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. Two years later, she received her Masters in Atmospheric Physics from the same institution. Though she never reached her dream of becoming an astronaut, she eventually took a position as a Research Scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center -- a significant achievement for a woman in the 1960s.

Later, she completed a two-year training program in Therapeutic Counselling at the Community of the Whole Person in Washington, D.C. This was followed by completion of a three-year program in Core Energetics at the Institute for Core Energetics in New York, New York in 1978 and a five-year program in Spiritual Healership at the Phoenicia Pathwork Center in Phoenicia, New York in 1979.

Her books are very well known in the metaphysical world with a large number of healers using her system and tools in their work. Almost any metaphysical bookstore in the United States or Europe is likely to carry her books, as are most mainstream bookstores. Her first book, Hands of Light, is considered a classic in the field of spiritual healing, with over 1 million copies in print in 22 languages.

Brennan's books are most noted for their drawings of auras and energy fields and her descriptions of how human energy fields interact with each other. Her ideas are similar but technically different from other authors such as Mantak Chia. Her healing processes are similar in some ways to metaphysical healers such as Ken Page (Author).

Brennan claims to receive intuitive messages about her clients during sessions. She also claims to see repetitive patterns in the energy consciousness of her clients indicating common underlying roots to their difficulties.

Barbara Brennan is also the founder of the "Barbara Brennan School of Healing" (BBSH), located in South Florida, that offers both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Professional Studies diploma in a specific healing modality called "Brennan Healing Science". The school is currently not accredited, but is licensed by the State of Florida, Commission for Independent Education, License No. 2897. In 2003, she opened a school in Europe called the "Barbara Brennan School of Healing Europe" (BBSHE). The European school was originally located in Mondsee, Austria. BBSHE moved in September 2006 to Bad Neuenahr, a small city with hot springs close to Bonn, Germany. In 2007, Barbara Brennan International, Inc will open a new branch of their school in Tokyo, Japan: "Barbara Brennan School of Healing Japan" (BBSHJ).
