Barbados on the Water Festival

Barbados on the Water is a three-day Canadian festival about the culture of Barbados. The festival takes place at the Harbourfront Centre, in the city of Toronto, Ontario. Held during the middle of June the festival is made up of events to give spectators a deeper understanding about the Caribbean nation of Barbados through: music styles like Soca & Calypso music or even Barbadian influenced Jazz. Performances also are held by various dance groups, and samples of Barbadian cuisine is also sold.
The Barbados on the water festival was created as a way to celebrate the long established ties between the nations of Canada and Barbados. In the past the event also featured special guests; such as prominent Canadians of Barbadian-decent or prominent Canadians living, or operating businesses in Barbados.
Barbados on the Water festival also focuses heavily on other arts and literary aspect about Barbados. The event is sponsored by several large corporate sponsors, the Barbados Tourism Authority, the Consulate General of Barbados and the National Cultural Foundation of Barbados.
In 2006, June has also started to be celebrated as "Canada Month" on the island of Barbados, various events during the month take place in Barbados involving Canadians living or permanently resident in Barbados. [1]
