Bapsfontein

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bapsfontein is a small town near Johannesburg in South Africa.

It was famous for the dancing that happened in the old Bapsfontein hotel but recent years has seen a degeneration of the surrounding area.

During first half of 2004 sinkholes appeared, as a result of too much groundwater being pumped out by vegetable farmers in the area.

Bapsfontein is also used in expressions by South Africans as a simile to "middle of nowhere". For example, "He's got an office in Bapsfontein" would imply that it's completely out of the way.
