been playing around with my loose thoughts about time and space, then figured this might be a good place to drop some of these so that i may clearly sort them out.

now i know there must be some massive issue with this, but play along with me for but a moment. given enough resources and energy a platform is built in the vast voids seperating the galaxies. practically little gravitation force is at play here. this platform for the sake of the exercise is one light year in length, five meters wide and one meter thick. we additionally have a number of one centimeter rods, say two, that are attached at each end of the platform via an opening on a post.

what we now have is basically a binary method of communication, based upon how the rods are in position to each other. pulling one or the other back and forth just a few centimeters would produce a like change on the other end. the distance being a light year would this in fact produce faster than light communication? the premise is impossible as far as we know, but in theory could there be any validity to these thoughts.

i expect that there would be some sort of wave motion that when you pulled or pushed one end the other end would have to await the wave much as if one were sending a charge along the line, but i am having some trouble wrapping my head around this. feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions on what i am missing. thanks for reading.
