Talk:Banks of the United Kingdom

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i just arrived in the uk and cant believe how hard it is to open a bank account. i have opened accounts in numerous countries and the uk is by far the hardest. they expect proof of address for people who have been in the country one day. many uk banks also require proof of employment, and some an income of £20,000. the uk banking system is clearly set up for the "good old boys". i have talked to many imigrants who have had to struggle. there are also scams where companies claim to be able to set up accounts for people without addresses. customers are asked to pay £50. many never see an account. banks like hsbc are also quick to make some money by offering passport accounts for £5 pcm {min 12 month comitment) for those without proof of address. the uk banking system also makes it hard for those who let rooms and dont have utility bills, or letting contracts in their name. this system also makes it vulnerable for those who are not eligible for accounts, as they are forced to make large payments in cash, and unable to write cheques instead. this system also exposes people to robbery and theft, since instead of writing cheques, they are forced to carry large amounts of cash on hand.
