Hey, there should be more images of BUET in wikipedia :( I don't get it...so many talented grads have graduated from this institution yet very few actually care to expose its credentials to the world!! If it wasn't for Rana bhai, the existence of this page would've been jeopardised too. The current teachers in BUET should care more about the current world instead of updating their site with MS Frontpage 97 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Atunu (talkcontribs).

[edit] Neutrality

The remarks in the opening paragraph "In Bangladesh, being part of BUET is a prestigious feeling and can be viewed analogous to be part of MIT in USA. BUET is respected for its international quality teaching and only the very best talents of the country can get into this university through unbelievable competition." - seems somewhat "emotional" and "flowery" to me. Isn't it better just to stick to the facts?

Unless someone disagrees I propose to change the wording as:

"In Bangladesh, being part of BUET is considered a prestigious achievement. BUET is respected for its international quality of teaching and only the very best talents of the country can get into this university through a highly competitive admission test." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Armanaziz (talkcontribs).

I agree. The language is somewhat too flowery. Be bold and make the changes. Thanks. --Ragib 16:55, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More Images of BUET

I have uploaded some images of BUET in wikimedia commons. Please chek the gallery with Bangladesh article. I hope fellow wikipedians will find them useful. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Raiyan (talk • contribs).

[edit] Fazlur Rahman Khan

Dr FR Khan is not a BUET alumnus. Should he be listed as an alumnus? himu 16:13, 19 September 2006 (UTC) ohaider

[edit] POV

"In Bangladesh, being part of BUET is considered a prestigious achievement. BUET is respected for its international quality of teaching and only the very best talents of the country can get into this university through a highly competitive admission test."

You call that NPOV? OMG! I guess, I have seen advertising brochures that depend less on peaock words and blatant unsourced claims. (Case in point - the Voxwagen Lemon campaign by Ogilvy and Mathers)

And, then - "The BUET community(faculty, students and stuffs) are proud to find BUET alumni all over the world in prestigious and key positions. In USA, BUET has its talents contributing to the highest level."

What is this? A pamphlet to draw people to BUET? Who stated that they are proud? Where did they say that? How did we found out that they were proud and all that crap? Please, check the following to keep the article (as well as other artciles on Bangladesh education) advertisement free:

  • A vital component: good research
    • But, no original research, please: Original research excludes editors' personal views, political opinions, and any personal analysis or synthesis of published material that appears to advance a position the editor may hold. That is, any facts, opinions, interpretations, definitions, and arguments published by Wikipedia must already have been published by a reliable publication in relation to the topic of the article. See this example for more details. (See: WP:NOR)
  • Let the facts speak for themselves
    • Be careful not to err too far on the side of not upsetting editors by leaving unsourced information in articles for too long, or at all in the case of information about living people. Jimmy Wales has said of this: "I can NOT emphasize this enough. There seems to be a terrible bias among some editors that some sort of random speculative 'I heard it somewhere' pseudo information is to be tagged with a 'needs a cite' tag. Wrong. It should be removed, aggressively, unless it can be sourced. This is true of all information, but it is particularly true of negative information about living persons." (See: WP:VERIFY)
  • Attributing and substantiating biased statements
    • Think ahead. Try to imagine whether or not people might doubt what you wrote, or need more information about it. Supporting what is written in Wikipedia by referring to a clear and reliable source will add stability to your contribution. (See: WP:CITE)

I have already notified User:Ragib on the problem. Please, let me know on my talk page which other admins I can involve into finding a solution for this problem. Yours - Aditya Kabir 05:08, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm late to reply, but yes, I agree with you on the POVisness of the text. This needs to be cleaned up. Thanks. --Ragib 04:57, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
