[edit] History

IdleGuy, I find the sentence "this and that were donated/given to by Indian Army" a quite amusing POV. The Pak Army was defeated by a joint command of Mukti Bahini and Indian Army. Then how does the question of Indian Army "Donating" Pakistan Army's stuff arise? Whatever tanks were left behind by Pakistan Army were properties of Bangladesh. Not of Indian Army, unless these were brought to Bangladesh from the Western Sector in Punjab. Thanks. --Ragib 09:41, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Oh, ok didn't think of it that way. But I think that figure could be slipped in without POV. Like maybe: Bangladesh Army started of with X number of tanks left by the Pakistan army... or something similar to that. that will also get the point across and get someone else to add more info on what else the Pakistan Army left behind. More on the lines of starting a thread. Cheers. --Idleguy 09:46, July 10, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. I intend to put more, and may be some references to the initial formation, initial chain of command, resources etc. That definitely would include the info on tanks. But as far as I remember, the main artillery force was formed in 1973 when Bangladesh got 30 russian tanks from Egypt. (These tanks have an interesting part in BD's history, it was these tanks that were used in the 1975 coup that killed Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. What an irony!!!) --Ragib 09:51, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
Actually going by what you are saying maybe a sub heading "Politics & the Bangladesh Army" should be put up since I know that Bangladesh had a history of coups and counter-coups during the mid 70s and 80s. Cheers. --Idleguy 09:57, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

I'd like to see references to what cooperation exists between Bangladesh and US in the military training arena. The last one that I can think of was in 2001 when an American master sergeant came and tried to lecture members of the general staff about landing procedures during seaborne attacks. I submit that while the Bangladesh Army has of late adopted US training procedures, there is little to suggest that there is any active military cooperation between the two nations.

Made small corrections to the tank segments. Cooperation between the U.S and Bangladesh Army exists. [1] Also there is intelligence cooperation[2].

A new question to ask is has the Pakistani's handed over any Al-zarar tank to Bangladesh and is there any news liks?

[edit] Confusing sentence

What is this supposed to say?

"The Mughal King Bahadur Shah Zafar gave his blessings to the sepoys of Bengal to carry the out the rebellion, his descendants served in the Bengal army(H.R.H Prince Mirza Jalaluddin) and after 1971, the Bangladesh Army, Colonel Muhammad Shahid Sarwar Azam (Retd) and his brother Lt Col. Sarwar Alam, MBBS, hailing from Natore, Rajshahi."

It doesn't many any sense. --AW 21:10, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
