[edit] Controversy

Greg Ryan was the Mayor of the City of Banyule in 2005. His mayorship was tarnished by allegations against him of threats of violence.

During Ryan's mayorship, Jenny Mulholland was the Deputy Mayor, and it was found that an allegedly illegal deal had been made which gave Ryan the title of mayor, but Mulholland had use of the mayoral 4WD.

Dean Sherriff has been charged with assault over a road-rage incident in late 2005, when he allegedly smashed a car windscreen with a length of wood, showering the two small children inside with glass. He has been allowed to retain his position as councillor, but the court appeal that might strip him of that position has been delayed until February 2007, since on the last court date Sherriff "had a fainting disorder" and did not attend.

Dale Peters runs a 'charity' called the Victorian Emergency Relief Fund, which is under fire because of a total of $450,000 collected for bushfire relief in 2002-03, only $55,000 ever got distributed to needy rural families. Peters allegedly paid himself an 'administrator's fee' of $100,000+, and a company he owns, called Australian Press Holdings, also received a hefty payment. VERF is under investigation from Consumer Affairs Victoria.
