Banu Mustaliq

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Banu Mustaliq is an Arabic sub-clan Banu Khuza'a, a clan of the Quraish tribe.

[edit] History

They occupied the territory of Qadid on the Red Sea shore between Jeddah and Rabigh[citation needed].

In 627, Muhammad set out from Medina and led a campaign against the tribe. The Mustaliq were defeated in a surprise attack. Among the captives taken by the Muslims was Juwayriya, the daughter of the Mustaliq's chief al-Harith. Muhammad asked her to marry him, and she accepted. As soon as the marriage was announced, all the booty that had been taken from the Banu Mustaliq was returned, and all the captives were set free.
