As of the 2001 India censusGRIndia, Bantwa had a population of 15,216. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Bantwa has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 57% of the males and 43% of females literate. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. Bantwa is the fastest growing city in the whole saurastra area and especially in the junagadh district.
Bantwa was a main hub 50 years ago for the trade of nuts and cotton.
