Banting is a small, bowl-shaped lunar impact crater located near the middle of the Mare Serenitatis. The lunar mare in the vicinity is flat and nearly devoid of features of interest.
This crater was previously identified as 'Linné E' before being renamed by the IAU. Linné crater lies to the west-northwest.
