Bankjobs.com[1] is an employment website which focuses entirely on the banking and financial services industries.
Bankjobs.com was founded in early 1997 by Nashville, Tennessee-based businessman William B. King.
King had previously co-founded leading U.S. financial services firms FISI-Madison Financial and Private Business, Inc. (NASDAQ:PBIZ; now known as Goldleaf Financial Solutions, NASDAQ:GFSI)[2]. King is also the publisher of industry magazines Bank Director[3] and Corporate Board Member.[4]
After years in the banking and financial services industry, King wrote a book called "Career Alternatives for Bankers: How to Use Your Background in Banking to Get Another Job" (Magellan Press). Both before and after the book was published, King found himself in the position of receiving phone calls from people in the banking industry who were losing their mid- to senior-level banking jobs due to strong merger activity between banks. Most who called were seeking some kind of resource to help them locate new banking jobs.
Together with business partner Shannon Scharber, King began an experiment to see if there were any new jobs in banking. A research group of 16 began perusing the Sunday papers of more than 120 U.S. metro markets, scouring the listings for banking jobs, and jobs in which a banking background would be useful. The news was so good that the company was founded, and the group began by creating an electronic and print database of banking jobs across the US.
Because home-based Internet access was still in limited use in 1997, the original print format was helpful for bankers in households without easy Internet access. Many of the nation's largest banks, including merger standouts Regions Financial Corp.[5] (NYSE: RF) and Wachovia [6] (NYSE: WB) began using the Bankjobs.com "Jobs for Bankers" program to help their displaced employees find new jobs, by sending them leads via email, fax or mail.
Over time, as the Internet evolved, so did Bankjobs.com. As far larger rivals Monster.com [7] (NASDAQ: MNST), HotJobs (now Yahoo! HotJobs)[8], and CareerBuilder[9](owned by Gannett, Tribune, and McClatchy newspaper companies) gained steam and job seekers became accustomed to doing their own job research over the Internet, Bankjobs.com ceased printing its paper publication "Jobs for Bankers" and focused on its technology-based job search function.
Notably, Bankjobs.com provided the first private-label job search websites for venerable daily banking publication "American Banker"[10] and the Western Independent Bankers Association.[11]
Today, Bankjobs.com is the oldest job search engine focused entirely on the banking and financial services industry. Its website features thousands of jobs and receives new job listings daily. Its powerful job search engine, combined with useful tools like Job Agents, helps prospective employees quickly and easily locate positions across the U.S. and overseas in banking and financial services.
