Bank of British North America

Bank of British North America was founded in 1835 in London, England with offices in Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, St. John, Halifax and St. John's.
It merged with the Bank of Montreal in 1918. Many Canadian banks disappeared as a result of mergers in the 20th Century and by 2007, only five or six major banks and several smaller ones still operate in Canada.
A Toronto office of Bank of British North America on Yonge Street remains today as a historical structure, but it is no longer used as a bank building. The former Bank of British North America branch at the corner of King and Dufferin streets in the Parkdale area of Toronto continues to operate as a branch of Bank of Montreal.
