Bangladeshi band music
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Band music became popular in Bangladesh in the early 1960s, with the formation of Zinga Goshty in Chittagong. After the independence, many bands were formed. Souls, yet another band from Chittagong, was one of the first bands to gain nationwide popularity with their original lyrics. Most bands of this time played in hotels around the country, however most of them focused on playing English songs. During the early 1980s, the scene began to change as more bands started writing original songs and releasing Bangla song albums. Feedback, Miles, Souls and Renaissance were some of the most popular bands of the 1980s and early 1990s.
In the 1990s, the band music scene truly came into its own with the emergence of more and more quality bands like LRB, Warfaze, Ark and Feelings.
Today, the scene is vibrant with new names such as Aurthohin, Artcell, Black, Bangla and others. Aurthohin, Artcell and Black have greatly impacted the recent music scene of Bangladesh, especially among young adults. Black and Artcell are normally credited respectively for the first Alternative Rock and Progressive Rock Band of Bangladesh, while Aurthohin is arguably the most popular Heavy Metal band in the country since the early musicians of this genre, i.e. Rockstrata and Warfaze. Arbovirus has recently emerged as one of the more popular grunge bands. It may be important to note that most of these bands are influenced more by American Thrash/Heavy/Progressive/Death Metal music than New Wave of British Heavy Metal music.
