Banglalink is the third largest cellular service provider in Bangladesh. As of December, 2006, Banglalink has a subscriber base of 3.64 million subscribers[2] and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Orascom Telecom. In August 2006, Banglalink became the first company to provide free incoming calls from BTTB for both post-paid and pre-paid connections.

Banglalink had 1.03 million connections until December 2005. The number of Banglalink cell phone users increased by more than 253 per cent and stood at 3.64 million in the past year

Orascom Telecom Holding purchased 100% of the shares of Sheba Telecom (Pvt.) Limited (“Sheba”) in September 2004. OTH operates a GSM network in Bangladesh and provides a range of prepaid and postpaid voice, data and multimedia telecommunications services.

Banglalink’s license is a nationwide 15-year GSM license that expires in November 2011. It was acquired for US$ 60 million and re-branded and launched its services under “Banglalink” in February 2005.

Bangla Link uses the following numbering scheme:

+88 019 N1N2N3N4N5N6N7N8

Where,

88 is the International subscriber dialling of Bangladesh.

(0)19 is the access code for Bangla Link as allocated by the Government of Bangladesh.

N1N2N3N4N5N6N7N8 is the subscriber number.

Banglalink currently offers three pre-paid plans, with the exception of M2M Plus all the pre-paid plans come in two phases. Standard(T&T incoming and outgoing with NWD and ISD) and M2M.

  • Desh, with the slogan ek desh ek rate, this the cheapest prepaid plan in the country by tarrif. Users of Desh can call any mobile operator at 1.95 [Taka]s (excluding VAT) around the clock and has 3 fnf numbers.
  • Ladies First tailored for women, with four fnf numbers.
  • M2M Plus mobile to mobile connectivity within Bangladesh and has T&T incoming.

Currently there is only one post-paid plan from Banglalink called "Upper Class"

Banglalink Enterprise[3] offers a wide range of products and services to suit the needs of the business community. A special tariff which allows users to talk to special numbers all through out the day at a very nominal price. This feature is available with all plans regardless of genre.

A new Banglalink standard connection costs Tk. 199 (including Tk. 120 free talktime) and mobile to mobile connection costs Tk. 120, which includes Tk. 120 free talktime.
