Bangarapet is a in Kolar district in the state of Karnataka, India. It is the last railway junction in Karnataka before entering Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Bangarapet was originally called as Bowringpet, named after an officer working in the Kolar Gold Fields. This town came into existence as the connecting point for the traffic between the gold fields and Bangalore.

Bangarapet is bordered by both Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu

As of 2001 India census,GRIndia Bangarapet had a population of 38,684. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Bangarapet has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 54% of the males and 46% of females literate. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. During the British times Bangarpet was known as Bowringpet.
