Bangarang is an indie-rock group hailing from the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex area of Texas. The group began playing and gigging in 2001. The band was somewhat well received into the local music scene, but never could find steady ground to grow, due to their idiosyncratic writing style, lyrical references to Christian theology, and large base of influences. There are currently two releases from the band: "Now...with Guitars!" EP (2003 Beatnik Vending Machine) and "Closet Organ" single (2004 Beatnik Vending Machine). Through marketing online at sites such as Myspace, Last.fm, and the group's official website, the band now has a growing fan base in many different countries.
In 2006 the band restructured their line-up (letting go of founding guitarists Mike and Joe Cassini and gaining Jason Ferguson and Clint Rowan) and began working on a large-scale conceptual collaboration piece. Involved in the project are a variety of visual artists and orchestral instrumentalists. Deciding to embrace the digital age and file-sharing, the piece allegedly will include an entire album of new songs to be released online free of charge, and also a proper full length release.
Founding member Randy Cochran currently owns and operates the Beatnik Vending Machine record label.
