Banchory Academy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Banchory Academy is a secondary school serving Banchory, Scotland and surroundings. It accommodates roughly 950 pupils, however has grown exponentially in recent years which has caused serious strain on the limited space available. Banchory Academy was originally built for approximately 700 pupils, and as there is no room to expand, there is talk of building a new secondary school, as has just happened to Banchory Primary school, of which there are now two.
Banchory Academy is among the better state schools in Scotland, and performs consistently well amongst the older years, with a large number of pupils staying on to do Highers before progressing to University.
Banchory Academy use the nearby Tillybrake Field for outdoor sports, which is also of a slight inconvenience as it is located a ten minute walk away from the school. For swimming lessons, the school turn to the prestigious Banchory Sports Centre and its excellent cohort of lifeguards to provide this service. One, Peter Greene, won the Lifeguard of the Year Award in 2006.
Banchory Academy also received some (albeit limited) worldwide fame when it appeared on sale on Ebay in 2005, as part of the leaving year's last day of school.
