Bambang Pamungkas is an Indonesian footballer. He scored the only goal for Indonesia at 2002 Tiger Cup versus Malaysia. His header at that time was called 'The Killer Header' by Malaysian newspapers.
According to Bambang's agent in Europe, Anthony van Dalen, there are several clubs in Europe that want to give him try-outs, such as Roda JC Kerkrade from Holland, and FC Koeln and Borussia Mönchengladbach from Germany. But Bambang doesn't let dreams take over his career, and he decided to join EHC Norad, a Third Division club in Holland. It's better for him this way, because now he's almost guaranteed a starting place in the lineup rather than always being on the bench had he decided to go for the top clubs. Moreover, by playing in the lower league, he'll have an easier time to adapt to European-style football.
After a year played in Dutch he doesn't want to continue his contract and go back to Indonesia. After that he got an offer to play in Malaysian League with the Selangor FC. In his first year he won treble(Malaysian Premier League,Malaysian FA Cup, Malaysian Cup) and became a top scorer with 24 goal in 24 matches in Malaysian Premier Leagueleague with total of 39 goals in 3 competitions(Malaysian Premier League, Malaysian FA Cup, Malaysian Cup)
With a height 170 cm, it'd be foolish for opponent players to underestimate this player who idolizes his striking partner in the national team, Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto, for Bambang is well-known for his aerial prowess. His jumping is very high and his heading accuracy is a nightmare for any goalie.
Before playing for the Indonesian senior national team, he played for the Central Java junior team and was chosen Most Valuable Player in 1996 Haornas Cup, a special tournament for teenage football. He was also the top-scorer in the national team for Asian Cup U-19 Group V, packing in 7 goals. With all this experience in the junior lever, the transition to the senior national team was a smooth one.
