The Article exhibits a definite bias. References to the schools 'reputation' are unfounded and arguably irrelevant. - 18/01/06

[edit] Balwyn High School article bias

Whilst the "reputation" or "performance" of Balwyn High School is relevant to possibly readers of this article, overall this piece presents itself as a one of simple marketing. This is ultimately against the very nature of wikipedia, and furthermore only reveals the grim nature of society in that a school, a vestige of education and free spirit, must descend to such a level to attract students. Further in this regard the reputation portrayed of Balwyn High itself comes under question as a "marketing pamphlet", possibly by the school itself, is hardly an objective standpoint to judge reputation.

  • I agree. I don't think the article is too bad but certain bits do read like a pamphlet. Although as an ex-student of the school and Balwyn resident, it is quite clear that BHS has a very strong reputation, and the line "In fact, some professional and mercantile families move to live within the school zone so that their children might have be eligible for entry to the school." is certainly true - "for sale" signs in the area always point out "IN BALWYN HIGH SCHOOL ZONE!" So I think the appropriate course of action would be to keep most of the POV statements but enclose them in a "Balwyn residents believe" sort of thing. Maybe I'm not the right person to do it though. —EatMyShortz 04:13, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
I've tried to rewrite a bit. One thing that would help is a proper infobox and a translation of the motto. Not much call for Latin in the Arctic. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 06:04, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
Good work, Cambridge! The motto means "constantly faithful" - I'll add that now and an infobox. If you have any questions about the school put them here and I'll try to answer them. —EatMyShortz 08:45, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
I made a few fairly minor edits to the content in order to tame the POV tone a bit. I think it's close enough to NPOV to remove the tag. OhnoitsJamieTalk 23:25, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nickname.. East Kew High?

I know this is a trivial issue but is that really true? Obviously it is east of Kew High but I've never heard it refered to as that by anyone. Its i a somewhat misleading tidbit to include, as there obviously is no East Kew High - Kew High is about as east as Kew gets. It just seems out of place without an explanation. Comments anyone? • I go to Balwyn High and have never heard it called East Kew High. I doubt it is a nickname for it.
