This came from the Georgia gov't website for Ball Ground ([1]), providing the true origin of the name. No battles were fought in Ball Ground, thus no maps would label it "Battle Ground."

"The 700+ residents of Ball Ground like to talk about their interesting heritage. The Cherokee Indians met here during an earlier century to play a game resembling lacrosse. This quiet, peaceful community is a family-oriented town boasting a neat and tidy downtown district."

This sounds more likely. I've had relatives in and around the Ball Ground area for well over 100 years and the only other name I've ever heard it called is "Oscarville." :P ~Firestorm

I live in Ball Ground and I believe the Battle of Taliwa may've been fought here. (Cherokees VS Creeks) Cherokee Victory year:1755 - <|:-)
