Baltimore Washington Eagles Metro Competition

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baltimore Washington Metro Competition is a division of the United States Australian Football League based in Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area with a focus on Metro Footy, a derived version of Australian rules football.

The Baltimore Washington Eagles Metro Competition is composed of three teams representing Baltimore, Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. Formulated in 2002 to help develop skills and provide more game experience for newer team players, the teams play a round-robin style season of four rounds, culminating in a Metro Grand Final. This grand final is typically played in October immediately following the USAFL Nationals. The winning team in the grand final wins the Denis Ryan Cup, a trophy named after one of the clubs' earliest founders and head coaches. Denis Ryan also introduced the club to the idea of Metro Footy as well as currently runs the club's USFootyKids' program, which teaches American children the fundamentals of the game.

The coaching staff selects players from the three Metro teams to play together as the Baltimore Washington Eagles in EAFL and USAFL National Championships competitions.
