Balrog (disambiguation)

The Balrogs are demons from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, but they may also have been the inspiration for the following:

• The monster you need to defeat to win the roguelike game Moria.
• The Balron, a type of non-player enemy in the role-playing game Ultima IV.
• The Balor, a type of demon in Dungeons & Dragons, which wields a sword and whip and can wreathe itself in flame.
• A video game character in the Street Fighter series:
  • For the "Balrog" character outside Japan, see Balrog (Street Fighter).
  • For the "Balrog" character in Japan, see Vega (Street Fighter).
• Balrogs in the video game Diablo II, (and their alternatives, Pit Lord and Venom Lord) are depicted as tall, muscular demons, complete with horns and wings. Wielding jagged swords, they spew forth highly-damaging streams of fire and are found exclusively in Hell (Act IV). Balrog/Pit Lord/Venom Lord info.
• A recurring enemy in the game Doukutsu Monogatari.
• A monster which dwells in the deepest part of the Dungeon's Cursed Sanctuary in the MMORPG MapleStory. This one, however, is only a Jr. Balrog. The Crimson Balrog, an older and stronger version, can be found on ships going to Orbis from Ellinia or vice-versa.
• A high level boss in the MMORPG Mu Online who can be found at the top of the Lost Tower.
• Eric Cartman's ninja alter-ego. quote "balrog has many powers".

They also inspired the Balrog Awards, a fan nominated and fan voted fantasy award originally given out by the Kansas City area Fool Con science fiction convention.
