Ballycorus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ballycorus (Baile Mic Fheorais in Irish)[citation needed] is famous for the ruins of the Leadmines. The ruins are a chimney complex (1805) inland from Shankill, Dublin, Ireland, consisting of a vertical granite tower section with external steps and a brickwork overground section, partially collapsed, which ran up the hill from Ballycorus lane to join the vertical section. The vertical section has external cantilever steps (some intentionally broken following an accident), each a single slab of granite.
As this is a local high-point, there is a panoramic view from the top of the hill.
Warning: Water/ground may still be contaminated with heavy metals in this area due to the practice of covering the top of the chimney with grass etc. while smelting.[citation needed]
