Balintore castle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Balintore Castle is a Victorian Grade A listed building north of Loch of Lintrathen, Angus, Scotland.

It was built in 1859 as a sporting lodge, having been commissioned by David Lyon. The architect was William Burn, pioneer of the Scottish Baronial style.

The castle stood empty from the 1960s until 2007, and its condition is greatly deteriorated. Angus Council used its compulsory purchase powers to buy Balintore Castle from its absentee Far Eastern owners, and it is now in the hands of a Scotsman who intends to restore it.
