Baldwin is a town in Chemung County, New York, USA. The population was 853 at the 2000 census. The town name is that of a pioneer family.
The Town of Baldwin is east of Elmira. It is part of the 'Elmira, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area'.

Baldwin was first settled around 1813. The Town of Baldwin was founded in 1856 from part of the Town of Chemung.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 66.7 km² (25.8 mi²). 66.7 km² (25.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.04% is water.hello hello
Part of the east town line is the border of Tioga County.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 853 people, 334 households, and 254 families residing in the town. The population density was 12.8/km² (33.1/mi²). There were 362 housing units at an average density of 5.4/km² (14.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.30% White, 0.82% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.23% Asian, and 1.17% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.23% of the population.
There were 334 households out of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.7% were non-families. 20.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.89.
In the town the population was spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 109.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $39,219, and the median income for a family was $42,250. Males had a median income of $31,424 versus $23,558 for females. The per capita income for the town was $19,075. About 5.9% of families and 9.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.4% of those under age 18 and 10.5% of those age 65 or over.

- Baldwin Creek -- A stream flowing out of the west side of the town.
- Hicks -- A hamlet in the eastern part of the town on County Road 3.
- Maccombers Corners -- A location on County road 22, east of North Chemung.
- North Chemung -- A hamlet at the intersection of Country Roads 1 and 41.
- Wynkoop Creek -- A stream flowing through the east of Baldwin.
