Balcarce, Buenos Aires

Balcarce is a city in Buenos Aires Province (Argentina) about 32 miles west of Mar del Plata with a population of approx 42,039 (2001 census). It is the Cabecera (head town) of the Balcarce Partido (District of Balcarce).

The city is famous as the birth place of Formula 1 legend Juan Manuel Fangio and today houses the Museo del Automovilismo "Juan Manuel Fangio" (Museum of Motering "Juan Manuel Fangio"). Also, its known for making world known pastries locally known as "Alfajores" which are composed of two corn bread cookies arranged in a sandwich manner with milk-cream filling.

Located just a few blocks from where Fangio was born, the museum houses a valuable collection of cars, trophies, photographs and other memorabilia.
