Balboa, California

Balboa is a subsection of the city of Newport Beach, Orange County, California. Balboa consists of an area of land called the Balboa Peninsula.

The word "Balboa," came from the famous Spanish explorer, Vasco Núñez de Balboa.

Historically, Balboa is, perhaps, most famous for introducing a new dance step called the Balboa. This dance step became popular and eventually spread throughout the world.

Balboa is primarily residential but has certain business areas as well.

Attractions include the Balboa Island Ferry, the Catalina Island passenger ferry, the Balboa Fun Zone amusement area, two sportfishing landings, The Wedge (famous surfing / body surfing location), miles of large ocean beaches, the Balboa Pier as well as stores, shops and restaurants.

Historical buildings include Balboa Pavilion (established 1906), the Balboa Theater (established 1928), and the Balboa Inn (established 1929).
