Baikonur_soyuz_plume.jpg (800 × 600 pixel, file size: 92 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Moments after being launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome, a Soyuz launch vehicle carrying the PanAmSat "Galaxy 14" satellite leaves behind a ghostly plume after staging that catches the sun (below our horizon) and delights the spectating crowd. The bright dot near the bottom of the picture, above the tree, is the ascending rocket.
