Bagpat (Hindi: बागपत, Urdu: باغ پت) is a city and a municipal board in Baghpat district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is the administrative headquarters of Bagpat District. It was founded by the Pandava brothers of Mahabharata as Vyagprastha.
The Baghpat city is located on the banks of river [Yamuna] at 28 deg 57' North Latitude and 77 deg 13' East Longitude. It is 52 KM from [Meerut] City and is on the main [Delhi] –[Sharanpur] Highway around 40 KM from Delhi toward north.
Baghpat District was established as a separate district in 1997. Prior to District, Baghpat was a Tehsil under [Meerut] in western [Uttar Pradesh].[1]

Baghpat has an average literacy rate of 46%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 62% of the males and 38% of females literate. 20% of the population is under 6 years of age.
