Bagisu

The Bagisu, alternately referred to as Gisu, Gishu, Masaba, or Sokwia (people of Bugisu) are a sub-group of the Bamasaaba people of Eastern Uganda, closely related to the Bukusu people of Kenya. Bagisu live in the mainly in Mbale District of Uganda on the slopes of Mount Elgon.

Bagisu speak a dialect of the Masaaba language called Lugisu, which is fully understandable by other dialects within the Bamasaaba group, and is also understood by the Bukusu.
