Badlands (U.K. band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Badlands, sometimes referred to as "John Sloman's Badlands", were a band from the UK that featured singer John Sloman, guitarist John Sykes, bassist Neil Murray, keyboardist Graeme Pleeth, and drummer John Munroe.
This band should not be confused with the American band Badlands, even though both bands featured former Black Sabbath members (Neil Murray in the case of the band which this article is about, and the late Ray Gillen and Eric Singer in the case of the other band). Also, John Sykes from the Badlands this article is about, and the late Ray Gillen from the other Badlands played together in an early version of the band Blue Murder.
Badlands recorded a 4 song demo including the songs:
- "Laughing In Your Face"
- "Not Guilty"
- "Which One Will Save Us Now"
- "I'm Lost Without Your Love"
John Sloman and John Munroe were reportedly previously in a band called Trapper with bassist Pino Paladino, who is now playing with The Who, with whom he's played on parts of Endless Wire.
Before Badlands, John Sloman sang for the band Uriah Heep, on their Conquest album from 1980. After Badlands, he released the solo albums Disappearances Can Be Deceptive, Dark Matter, and 13 Storeys, and reportedly recorded another that's never been officially released.
Badlands reportedly broke up upon John Sykes joining the band Thin Lizzy, with whom he played on Thunder and Lightning and Life before joining Whitesnake and One Night Only after Whitesnake.
After Thin Lizzy (which he has since returned to, this time as lead vocalist as well as guitarist), John Sykes joined Whitesnake, starting with the U.S. version of the Whitesnake album Slide It In. Neil Murray also played with Whitesnake, in his case both before and after (and possibly during) Badlands. John Sykes and Neil Murray played together in Whitesnake on the U.S. version of Slide It In and on Whitesnake.
